The colour of the tooth is determine by the dentine colour, it various from individual to individual and also different ethnic group. Chinese and Malays will tends to have slight yellowish tooth. The colour of the dentine getting more saturated with aging.
The brightness (value) of the tooth is regulated by the thickness and translucency property of the enamel. The higher the brightness (value) of the enamel, the whiter the tooth. We have thicker enamel during young, and the enamel layer become thinner due to aging and wearing caused by mastication process.
Precaution
Avoid coffee, tea, red wine, smoking and stain food like curry during the active treatment period.
Contra-indication
Please note that bleaching will not change the colour of the existing filling and fixed prosthesis (crown or bridge).
Whitening Procedure
We are using Opalescence Boost 35 for this case, the bleaching gel consist of 35% Carbamide Peroxide. It is manufactured by Ultradent (USA), FDA approval for clinical use, and registered clinical product under Ministry of Health, Malaysia.
After polishing the teeth surface with pumice to remove plaque and debris, the teeth was isolated from lip and cheek with a retracted. A layer of protective gum barrier was laid on the gum around the teeth to keep the gum safe from the bleaching gel.
Applied the gel on the teeth surface and the gel will start to penetrates the porosities in the rod-like crystal structure of enamel and bleach stain deposited in the dentine. After 20 minutes, we sucked away the gel with high power vacuum suction. Then reapply with the gel again for another 20 minutes. Additional cycle maybe necessary depends on the discolouration of teeth.Treatment Procedure & Result
After remove the plaque, the lip and cheek isolated with retractor, and protect the gum with resin gingival barrier.
Opalescence Boost 35% applied on the labial surface of teeth, and keep it for 20 minutes.
Immediate after completed 2 cycled of in-office whitening. The whitening process of 35% Carbamide Peroxide will remain active inside the dentine for up to six additional hours.
